In the 1960s, Roman Opalka devoted his life to the creation of one great work: the transcription of positive integers, written consecutively, starting from 1 and continuing toward infinity. Once he had filled the space of the first picture surface ,he continued the sequence on a new one.. In this monumental undertaking, art and life come together to give form to the passage of time. This concept is further emphasised by the photographic portraits of the artist, who documented himself at the end of each sequence, always dressed in the same way. The plates exist in two versions: large canvases and more agile supports (if the artist was travelling), including the work exhibited here.
