The work consists of a photograph of a plane-tree branch deformed and swollen by parasites visible beyond a wall. The artist has intervened in tempera, adding the black background and winged palette that characterizes his research. The theme of this composition is a recurring one in Kiefe’s work: nature in danger undergoing unsettling metamorphoses, which take on plastic forms; salvation represented by a winged palette flying beyond the wall, f, is identified with the dreams of Icarus, the artist’s alter ego, in pre- fall Berlin.
