The work is the décollage of two posters, one of which refers to the Fosse Ardeatine massacre; the other has a yellow background and fluorescent red writing. Since 1957, Rotella has used double décollage technique, glueing posters torn from the walls onto the canvas and then tearing them again. After 1958, he limited his intervention to their selection and superimposition, allowing larger fragments of images and writing to emerge, emphasizing the importance of quotation. The décollage examined here belongs to this phase, which sees the passage of the poster from ephemeral phenomenon to daily chronicle and history of an epoch.
