The pastel consists of a texture of red, vermilion and orange lines, under which traces of blue and grey lines are faintly visible. The contrast gives depth and movement to the composition, creating an impression of perceptual instability. The prevalence of red has a symbolic and political significance in relation to the artist’s involvement with the Communist Party. Created after the artist’s first trip to the United States, it marks the brief existence of the Crack Group and is linked to Dorazio’s participation in the Movimento Arte Concreta before his passage to Optical Art.
