CAMeC
The structure
The history and the building
The CAMeC is one of the most important cultural institutions in the city, not only for its art collection but also for the historical significance of the building in which it is housed.
It represents a meeting point between history and contemporary and modern art.
The museum is divided into three exhibition levels and includes two large panoramic terraces.
The ground floor and first floor are dedicated to the permanent collection, curated by Gerhard Wolf. The second floor will house temporary exhibitions, starting from April 2025.
At the heart of the museum, an impressive fan-shaped staircase and a glass lift make for a striking architectural centrepiece.
The interior spaces
Inside, CAMeC offers spacious, well-lit environments designed to enhance the artworks. The flexible and adaptable exhibition spaces can accommodate everything – from large-scale installations and sculptures to paintings and multimedia works.
The interior architecture encourages a seamless visitor experience, inviting full immersion in the variety of artistic expressions on display.
In addition to the exhibition galleries, the building includes spaces for cultural events, conferences and educational workshops, creating a vibrant hub for cultural exchange and interaction.
The Museum’s new project
At CAMeC, art comes to life, constantly bringing past and present together. Featuring both Italian and international works, the collection offers insights and compelling stories that span from the 20th century to today. The museum takes visitors on a journey, allowing them to explore unexpected connections between styles and artists, discover ever-evolving collections, and find inspiration in new perspectives. It is an invitation to see the world through the lens of art, within a welcoming and stimulating environment.
After an extensive renovation, CAMeC has reopened to the public with an updated design, visual identity, and cultural mission. As a dynamic cultural hub, the museum is not only an important public space, but also a “gateway” to the Cinque Terre.
Alongside its commitment to preserving a rich heritage, CAMeC aims to present nationally acclaimed temporary exhibitions, events, and initiatives each year, firmly positioning itself within a network of international cultural exchanges.
Store
Located at the entrance of the Museum, the Store is primarily dedicated to modern and contemporary art publications.
In addition to catalogs, essays, monographs, and educational publications, it offers museum gadgets and design objects.
