Morandi and Fontana at CAMeC: Invisibile e Infinito opens on April 12

Free admission to the opening event

On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 6:00 PM, CAMeC – Centre of Modern and Contemporary Art in La Spezia opens to the public the exhibition Morandi and Fontana. Invisibile e Infinito. Admission to the opening event is free. The exhibition will be open until September 14, 2025.

A journey through iconic works by Giorgio Morandi and Lucio Fontana

For the first time, the artistic explorations of Giorgio Morandi and Lucio Fontana are presented in direct dialogue. Two radically different approaches, united by a deep tension toward essence, transcendence, and the absolute.

More than sixty works – including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and watercolours – guide visitors through a path that includes:

  • Fontana’s Spatial Concepts, Attese, and Teatrini,
  • Morandi’s still lifes, landscapes from Grizzana, and refined watercolours,
  • culminating in a shared exploration of their graphic and sculptural languages.

A visual and conceptual encounter that challenges perception and opens reflection on time, space and the invisible.

Curated by two leading experts in 20th-century Italian art

The exhibition is curated by Maria Cristina Bandera, a leading scholar of Morandi, and Sergio Risaliti, director of the Museo Novecento in Florence and curator of major exhibitions on Fontana. Together, they present a curatorial vision that renews our perspective on two key figures of modern Italian art.
