The CAMeC Museum offers a truly immersive experience through its Permanent Collection. The new display creates a dynamic interaction between artworks, space, and visitors, crafting pathways that highlight both the richness of the collection and the connection between art and the contemporary world.

Curated by Gerhard Wolf and displayed across the ground and first floors, the current display features over 200 works which have been arranged beyond the standard museum conventions. Some rooms display series of works, while others juxtapose different styles, such as geometric and organic abstraction. The artworks are organised according to different themes, including body and performance, architecture, ecology, Pop Art, and the 1980s.

The museum also dedicates specific spaces to the city of La Spezia and its history, with “niches” highlighting important events such as the “Il Gabbiano” Gallery and the Battolini collection, one of the CAMeC’s most significant assets. The collection also offers a global perspective with notable works, including a rare photograph documenting Gordon Matta-Clark’s performance in Genoa.

This display of the Permanent Collection is dynamic and constantly evolving. Works on paper and photographs are periodically rotated for conservation purposes, ensuring a fresh and continually renewed experience. In addition, temporary loans and site-specific installations by contemporary artists contribute to CAMeC’s ongoing role as a vibrant, living space for art that engages with the present.

With this approach, CAMeC seeks to establish itself as an open, innovative, and ever-evolving cultural hub, where visitors can engage with art from constantly renewed and exciting perspectives.
