Two works exploring the limits of language<\/h2>\n

On Friday 6 November 2026 at 5.30 pm, CAMeC opens a new Project Room exhibition devoted to Ketty La Rocca (La Spezia, 1938 \u2013 Florence, 1976), marking fifty years since her death. Curated by Eleonora Acerbi and Giulia Lecchini, the exhibition is free to visit until 10 January 2027.<\/p>\n

The presentation brings together Installazione con specchi (1967), from La Spezia\u2019s civic collections, and Appendice per una supplica (1972), a video on loan from GAM \u2013 Galleria Civica d\u2019Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin. Both works challenge familiar forms of communication and examine the body\u2019s role in making meaning.<\/p>\n

Installazione con specchi (1967)<\/h3>\n

Twenty-three painted metal and mirror elements create a space that changes as visitors move around it. Reflections draw viewers into the composition, unsettling the conventional divide between artwork and observer. The installation entered La Spezia\u2019s civic collections through a donation by the artist\u2019s son, Michelangelo Vasta, in 2001.<\/p>\n

Appendice per una supplica (1972)<\/h3>\n

In this silent, black-and-white video, lasting nine minutes and thirty seconds, hands open, close, intertwine and count. These simple movements become a way of exploring communication, human connection and the limits of words. The work was presented at the 1972 Venice Biennale.<\/p>\n

From Visual Poetry to the body<\/h3>\n

Born in La Spezia and active in Florence, La Rocca became involved with Gruppo 70 and Visual Poetry in the 1960s. Using collage, words and images drawn from mass media, she questioned the conventions of advertising and popular communication. Her practice later expanded into photography, performance, installation and video, with hands and gestures becoming central to her search for forms of expression beyond language.<\/p>\n
